Seeking Opportunities

How does a person find opportunities in life? Does Hashem only present certain people with opportunities for good fortune? Shlomo HaMelech teaches us the secret to understanding this topic in Sefer Mishlei:
In front of an understanding person there is wisdom, but the eyes of a fool are to the ends of the earth. (Mishlei 17:24)

Hashem surrounds us with opportunities, but we need to learn how to notice and appreciate them. Just like fish in an ocean full of water, we live in a world full of air. This serves as a metaphor for us: Just as Hashem is constantly providing us with tons of air to breathe, He is also providing us with an abundance of other great opportunities for the taking.

We have been placed, thank God, in the right place at the right time. You are here! Seize the opportunity to do great things with your life. As we learned above, “If not now, when?” (Avos 1:14).

Now is the time for you to blossom. Hashem has made you with tremendous potential. You can call yourself the “super you.” That is why the Mishnah (ibid.) says, “If I am not for myself, who will be for me?”

If you are not thinking, Now is the time, you may have missed the message, “You are the one.” Take a good look at yourself. Notice your uniqueness and your immediate surroundings. Notice opportunities you may have been missing. Remember: “Every person has his time and every object has its place” (Avos 4:3).
